New Year, New Conservatory
/Are you thinking about changing your home but not sure how to go about it? Maybe the festive period was a bit squashed and you felt like you could do with a bit more space. Perhaps you would like a new room with some versatility without going all the way to an extension – or maybe the New Year brought about a new enthusiasm for some home improvements.
Whatever the reason, conservatories are a great way to not only add a space that can be used all year round, but to add value to your property.
Now available in a range of thermally efficient shapes and sizes, construction has come a long way from the once boxy, cold in the winter, too hot in the summer conservatories of old. From the curves of a Victorian conservatory to the grandeur of a gable, the clean and stylish lean to, to the contemporary Edwardian, the versatile P shape to the elegant orangery, there are lots of stylish, homely and spacious ways to add to your home.
Advances in technology have meant that while household energy prices seem to be constantly on the rise, you don’t have to worry about there being lots of heat being lost through the expansive window systems featured in conservatory styles. U-values, which measure the levels of heat transfer between a structure and the outside, are getting lower and lower, which makes for better thermal efficiency – so you can enjoy the feeling of a light an open space which a conservatory brings to your home, without having to worry about bringing the elements in too. Advances in glass manufacture even mean that the glare of the light outside can be reduced, so you can enjoy the view without having to put your sunglasses on. All of this combines to make a conservatory a great way to add to your home when you’re not quite open to a full single storey extension, but would like to add lots of space and natural light.
If you already have a conservatory but are looking to spruce it up a bit, you may benefit from a roof replacement. This is a cost-effective way to give new life to your conservatory, and due to the advances in glass and structure manufacturing, the new addition will more than likely deliver higher levels of thermal efficiency and ventilation, to ensure that it once again becomes a space that can be used throughout the year, whatever the weather.
