This Valentine’s Day – say it with windows
/For a day that’s all about celebrating love, Valentine’s Day comes with an awful lot of pressure, whether that means finding the right restaurant, cooking the perfect meal or not repeating the same card. When you’ve worked hard to make a place your own, why not make staying in your perfect date, and celebrate at home?
That’s not to say that it has to be like every other night in. There are ways to dress and use your home and windows to really get into the Valentine’s Day spirit.
To start with, there’s no harm in going for the traditional flowers on the window sill – make to place them in the most prominent space, to make the biggest impact, and if you wanted to take this further, you could even scatter flower petals along other spaces. This will not only look nice, it will also liven up the senses with a lovely smell.
There are now so many ways to decorate your home in a Valentine’s theme that there is a danger that you might have to section one side of the loft off for Christmas decorations and the other for Valentine’s, so if you’d like to really go for it, there are plenty of Pinterest boards and ideas dedicated to everything from bunting to window stickers, lights to reefs. If you have a song that’s “yours” or a film that you quote to each other, why not print these quotes out and hang them up, to make it really personal?
If you like words and planning, you could do something completely different and use some chalk pens on your windows to plan your next big holiday together or to do a round-up and celebration of your time together so far. Using the windows in this way is sure to mark the day in a truly different way from every other day. Chalk pens will wash off easily, too, so you don’t have to worry about a big clean up.
You could even use the different areas of your house for different ways to spoil each other. If you have a conservatory or orangery space, why not add some candles and subtle soft furnishings to turn this into your very own spa area, or the perfect place for an indoor picnic.
This Valentine’s Day, you could make your home a real haven for love, and it will be up to you whether it’s for one day, or a year-long celebration.
