How to dress a bay window with blinds and curtains
/Full of character and charm, bay windows are a great addition to any home, but while the extra panes can bring in more natural light, they can combine to be tricky windows to dress. While it can be hard to imagine how to make a bay window more stylish, here are some treatment options which could make your bay even more stunning.
Curtains combined with Roman blinds
Roll up Roman blinds are a great way to dress each part of your bay window and make it possible to adjust the level of light that comes in from each area. When choosing and fitting them, make sure that you measure the blinds to hang over the frame slightly. This will ensure that there are no gaps and that all of the glass is covered. Through adding curtains, you can add a sense of style through extra framing, as well as privacy and warmth, if you do choose to shut them.
Part dress the window
If you’re looking to keep privacy and maximise on natural light, hanging fabric at the bottom half of the bay window could be an ideal option. Through leaving a small gap at the top of the window and covering the rest, you can create a really light, airy and contemporary look. To do this, simply add a curtain wire to the top of the area you’d like to hang the fabric from, and run the fabric through, after hemming. If you match the colour and pattern to other fabrics, it can really bring the room together.
Window shutters
Versatile in their use and set up, shutters offer full coverage, split tier or part coverage from the bottom half down, and are a different and elegant way to dress a bay window, no matter what type of home you have.
Full coverage, one curtain
Of course, a simple way to dress your bay window is to treat it as a single window and add one curtain to run across the bay. It’s a fuss-free look that can act as a screen for if you are using the bay area for storage, too.
Choose your fabric wisely
Patterned fabric can make a huge difference to the look of your room, ensuring that your bay window is a real focal point whether the curtains are open or closed. If you have a combination of materials used in your window coverage – such as roller blinds or shutters and curtains – a pattern or bright colour on the main bay coverage and a neutral, plain effect on the outer curtain will deliver the greatest effect.
